How to Report a Repair
This section contains useful information that should help us to attend to your problem with the minimal delay. The first point to make is that if you think the repair problem is likely to be classed as an emergency you need to be looking now at our section on “Getting work done in an emergency”. If the repair is not causing immediate danger to you and your family please consider the following stages:
- Check through the booklet provided by our main contractor Connaught plc “Getting the best from your home” to see if there are any actions that you can take yourself that will reduce the inconvenience
- Be prepared to explain quickly and simply the problem that you are experiencing and the location of this problem within your home – it may help to write this down so you have your own record of what you have reported. It is always best if the person who calls us is the tenant or someone who has actually seen or experienced the problem first hand. If the problem is a recall on a problem you have reported earlier, please make this very clear at the start of your conversation.
- We will always need the following information from you so it will help if the information is to hand; (a) your name and full address, (b) the best phone number we can use to keep in touch with you and (c) details of anyone in your household who is especially vulnerable or if we need to note any special circumstances e.g. if it will take a long time for someone to get to the door when we call.
- In most cases we will try to arrange an appointment to assess the problem on site and try to fix it. It will be very helpful if you have your diary or calendar handy so that we can agree an appointment that is mutually convenient and you can make a note of this there and then.
- We will usually be able to give you a job number for the repair that you report and it would help if you write this down and keep it until the problem has been resolved.
