Youth group goes to Ogwen Cottage
Eight young people from both our Jervis Court Foyer and Young Parents Scheme enjoyed an eventful weekend in the isolated area of Snowdonia, surrounded by mountains and lakes. A very different picture from Walsall – particularly as the first challenge was to get a signal on mobile phones, the second, managing without a TV!
The activities enjoyed over the weekend included rock climbing, sea traversing, mountain walking and canoeing – all of which was a first experience for everyone, including staff. Fears of water and heights were overcome, and the sense of adventure and fear was felt by all – with very positive outcomes.
The event was lead by our fantastic volunteer Eddie, supported by Jervis Court staff. Those who attended said they would love to do it again and were grateful for the opportunity to experience something they would not normally do. The whole event was funded by Walsall Connexions through their “Positive Activities for Young People” (PAYP) and we are very grateful to them for making this possible.
Look out for another adventure in 2009!
