WALSALL RESIDENTS GET CHANCE TO WALK BACK IN TIME!
A popular local historian is set to showcase historic photos at a Walsall church this May Bank holiday weekend to give visitors a chance to delve into the history of Caldmore.
Ann French, local author and historian will be displaying the photographs at the Evangelical Church in Bath Street on Saturday 29 and Monday 31 May from 10 am – 4 pm.
Visitors can learn about how the area has changed and will be invited to add their own pictures and experiences to the collection. Free cream teas will also be served throughout the day.
Ann will also be giving a guided walk, ‘We’em Gooin On A Walk’ on Sunday 30th at 2.30 pm. The walk will take in many historic sights and buildings, including visits to St Marys the Mount and St Michaels and All Angels Church.
People can register their interest for the walk by attending the event on Saturday and adding their name to a list. Ann will also be giving a slideshow talk on Monday 31st at 2.30 pm for those who have missed the walk.
Alan Cheeseman, Co-ordinator of Caldmore Village Festival Group, said: “Ann French is well loved and highly represented in the local area and this is a great opportunity for people to add their memories to her collection. We can’t wait to see people pictures and hear their experiences of the area.
The walk is set to be a particular highlight and will be full of local facts and information about the historic places. We even hope to visit the beautiful altar at Mandir Baba Balak Nath Hindu Temple.”
This local history event is part of the Caldmore Village Festival. The festival is being run by local people and backed by Caldmore Housing Association, Ambur Radio, Walsall Council and Walsall Housing Group.
